2013 Wellesley Parade
Sunday, May 19
Each year, Troop 185 has the honor of carrying a large American flag in the Wellesley Parade. We need about 12 boys to volunteer for the event. If you would like to help, please tell Mr. Fisher.
The rain date is Sunday, June 2, but it looks as though that will not matter. If the weather is questionable, check this page: it will be updated between 10:00 and 11:00 the morning of the parade. You can also check the official web site for the parade: http://wellesleyweekend.com/index.html .
Why march with Troop 185?
- It is an honor to carry the American flag in the parade.
- It helps your troop.
- Service hours.
- Ice cream.
If you can, please come. For my peace of mind, please also reply to this note unless you have already confirmed that you can come.
The day of the event, please dress in your Scout uniform: shirt, neckerchief, belt, and scout cap. (The cap is optional, but a good idea because it will keep the sun out of your eyes. Please do not wear a non-Scout cap.) Please wear long pants or khaki shorts, not jeans. We are there to carry the flag, and we want to be respectful of it.
When and Where
Meet at the Wellesley Community Center (Washington Street, near the intersection with Route 9) between 12:00 and 1:00. Expect to start marching by 1:30 or so, and to finish by 3:00. (These are my best guesstimates.)
We will be marching near the end of the parade.
Washington Street will be closed to traffic, so allow extra time to get there. Parking is available in the DPW lot: enter from Woodlawn Ave.
The troop will treat the marchers to ice cream at the White Mountain Creamery when we are done. Families should plan to meet their Scouts there or let them walk to some other meeting place.
The day of the parade, you can call me on my cell phone. I will answer it while we are gathering and after we are done, but not while we are marching. Until Sunday, e-mail is the best way to reach me.
